Who would have guessed, over 500rwhp and 550rwtq on less than 10psi on a stock 99 Cobra with just a catback and our complete turbo system!!!
We are proud to announce the release of our new 4v Modular Ford 4.6 single turbo kit. After long hours testing, building prototypes, dyno time, and just seat time, the kit is produced and currently shipping daily. Take a look at all of the photos and details that we give you on the kit and all of the components that are contained in the setup as well. Dollar for dollar, this should be the best deal on the market for any 4v turbo kit that is a bolt on application.
Our test car we tested with is a 1999 Mustang Cobra 5 speed and completely bone stock besides for the supporting mods for the turbo and Dynomax catback. After making some impressive numbers on the 2v turbo kit, we had very high expectations for our new 4v Cobra setup. Never would have guessed we would see 526/550 though at 9.4psi and here is some background. The test car was supercharged previously and at ~ 8psi, the car made 44/396. With only approximately 1.4psi of boost more now, we are making 86 rear wheel horsepower over being supercharged and 154 ft lbs of torque! These were all made with our full downpipe to catback exhaust and though catback full exhaust.
We started from scratch on this 4v Cobra setup and turned out better than we could have hoped for. All the design work is done in house, dyno tested with Dynotune Motorsports as well as typical daily driving situations. We put a lot of effort in this setup to make sure this kit performs as good as it looks and the dyno numbers back that up. This is a video of the 2v car, we have not had a good day to get the car out on a clear day to do some pulls. They both make power around the same time granted the Cobra makes about 120 more rear wheel hp and 105 more ft. lb of torque than what you are seeing!

*This kit will require the installation of a tubular k-member. We designed it with the QA1 and have also used AJE. The old Granatelli setups will not work, we have not tested with the new kit. We would just recommend going with one of the kits that we have already used on the car.

Details for installing on 96-8 Cars:

  • - The kit has not been tested on these cars and there are a few changed compared to the 99+ Cobra.

  • - Intercooler pipe going into the throttle body

Here is the deal, the next choice going turbo on your car is $6,000+ and this will still allow you to keep on budget. Most people will make a simple “L” bracket and move the coils to the firewall. Very simple to do and really doesn’t require any special tools besides for maybe a bench vice. We are not 100% sure yet on the lower coolant tube fitment but would just recommend to pick up one of the flexible radiator pipes. They can be had for around $40 and solve any issues with this. This is the same thing we run on the 99 Cobra as well to give more clearance and route easier. Last known issue is the angle going into the throttle body. The 96-8 come out pointing forward slightly compared to the 99+ intakes. You should be able to get it close just cutting the elbow off currently that goes to the throttle body and the couplers should allow for enough movement. If not it would just be a simple fix and maybe ½ shop hour to get that correct. Estimate around $100 to accomplish these mods and still will put you in well below the comparable $6,000+ dollar kits on the market. On top of that, its very minimal work and shouldn’t be more than a couple hours of work.


Details for installing on Mach 1’s:

We have had a few customers do the install and has required the front shaker bracket to just be trimmed. The AC lines run right below the turbo but just tweaking them out of the way is no problem and will your hands. We have not done the install personally at the shop but customers have confirmed and as you see, successfully managed the install.

    WARRANTY INFO:

     

    1 year on the hotside from manufacture defects, 1 month for the On 3 Performance 70mm turbo and 1 year on the Master Power turbo. If there is an issue, we would need the product back in order for inspection to further inspect to either fix or issue a new part.     Q - Will you part out or only sell certain parts out of the kit?

    A - No, we only sell kits complete but we will sell individual turbochargers


    Q - What power can I expect from the kit?

    A - Your car stock should make around 270 rear wheel horsepower. So the nice thing about a turbocharged application, you can run any level of boost. The kit at ~6psi( +/- 1psi) will be enough to put you over 400 rear wheel horsepower. This roughly bumps your rear wheel horsepower by nearly 50% over a stock 4.6 4v.


    Q - What should we do about tuning or is a tune needed?

    A - Almost anytime you make any large change to your current setup, you should have your car tuned. Its basically like added insurance to your engine and also you gain horsepower from it at the same time. Incorrect air to fuel ratios will lead to detonation and as you know toast your motor.     Q - Is there a such thing as a safe amount of boost to run?

    A - Anytime you modify your car there is always risk but as we all know they are calculated risks we all take. With the correct tune, fuel system upgrades, and supporting mods, the 4.6 motor can respond and last in boosted situation. Generally want to limit yourself around the 450 rwhp mark.

This was a graph when the car was on around mid or upper 6psi range. I dont recall each pull as we have been to the dyno multiple times with this car but this gives you an idea what you can get out of a virtually stock car with our complete system on LOW BOOST!
